Welcome once more to the Karak Eight Peaks Blood bowl stadium, home to the Granitebeard Grumblers who are currently leading their division of this the Northern Wastes league. The visitors today are the Arthurian Cycle. Both sides are down players today, with the Granitebeards missing their slayers, who are still recovering from being on the wrong end of some of the Glow worm Goobers weapons. Whilst the Arthurians are missing their main muscle in the form of Mordred, who I believe is recovering from a blow from the Goobers main masher troll Mouldy.
The crowd has been swarming into the seats today, ticket sales have reached a whopping eleven thousand with an almost two one split in favour of the division leaders and why not it’s perfect weather for Blood bowl.
For this match the Athurians I hear have been putting in extra training (+1 re-roll) and it looks like Merlin has brought along one of his apprentices Nimuë.
The Arthurians won the coin toss and have decided to receive this first half. The Grumblers have set up in a “Bow and Arrow” formation with the main bulk of the team on the front line with blitzers and blockers to the wings and runners ready for any break throughs. Cycle counter with three on the line of scrimmage blitzers and body guards on the wing two linemen behind the main line and throwers deeper in reserves.
There is the kick, and it’s coming down centre field. (Brilliant Coaching – Grumblers)
AC 1. As the ball comes down Gaheris is quick off the mark and scoops up the ball barely even slowing down as he runs out to the wing and hands it off to Pellinore. But it’s slipped through his fingers and it’s loose.
GG 1. With the ball in play Thorif Ironface lives up to his name and with a head butt sends Bedivere off the line of scrimmage and into the dug out seeing stars. The Grumblers centre line knock down the rest of the central Cycle defences and Flint and Barak move towards the loose ball with Storaz moving up to guard it.
AC 2. The Arthurians throw some blocks at the Grumblers looking to clear some space, whilst Pellinore barges into Storaz. Storaz hits back and both shunt back and fourth before Pellinore sidesteps to try to pick up the ball, but is tripped by Storaz and the ball flies into the crowd. The ball is back in play and is sent back to where the original kick landed.
GG 2. The Grumblers clear a corridor in the Arthurian line which Barak and Flint weave through into the Arthurian’s half. The rest of the Grumblers have split the Arthurian team forming a barrier between them and the ball.
AC 3. Gareth with Grumblers bearing down on him, picks up the ball and goes to pass to Arthur. Flint with a burst of speed runs over to Gareth to interfere with the throw. Gareth’s arm is caught but he manages to get the ball away, though it’s off it’s target and lands on the edge of the pitch.
GG 3. Albric tries to clear a path to the ball and lands a blow against Arthur, who staggers before coming down right on the ball. Arthur is carried off the pitch to the dug out seeing stars, whilst the ball is knocked into the crowd, who promptly throw it back along the line of scrimmage and is caught by Thorek. Gromnir moves to act as a bodyguard to Thorek. Grumblers are keeping ontop of the Arthurians trying to pin them in place.
AC 4. Gareth knocks Flint to the floor, and the Arthurian’s are striking back against the Grumblers. Sir NeNeville gets to his feet sprinting towards Thorek and tackles him to the ground, sending the ball loose.
GG 4. Grumblers surround the loose ball, whilst Barak moves in, but stumbles and drops the ball bouncing loose.
AC 5. Guinevere pushes Flint onto the ball and gets kicked back. Elaine tries to move away from the Grumblers but is caught by the pigtails and is brought to the ground.
GG 5. Guinevere has found herself in the middle of a dwarf sandwich, and from the rumours isn’t the first time. The Grumblers pass her around before being thrown to the floor. Sir Bors’ fancy foot work isn’t enough to stop a dwarfen shoulder to his belly and is sent to the dug out by Storaz. With Barak struggling, he now nips in and grabs the ball and sprints off towards the touch line with Gotrimm as bodyguard.
AC 6. Gareth seizes his opportunity and ducks away, but is snagged and dropped to the floor.
GG 6. Barak runs the ball over the chalk TOUCH DOWN!!!!! 1-0 to the Grumblers.
With the lines resetting Pellinore who has been cowering on the floor for most of that play gets up, Bors wakes up and comes back onto the field with Palamades as reserve. But with two players still stretched out in the recovery box the Arthurians are one player down.
The Grumblers have set up all on the front line with Barak and Flint in reserves, whilst thou the Arthurian’s have set up in an aggressive manner, as well they have minmal on the front line more kept a little space between them at the Grumblers.
It’s at this point there is some confusion and for some reason the Arthurians are kicking to the Grumblers. But remember boys and girls if something unexplained happens in fantasy, a wizard did it.
There is the kick and it’s coming down centre field in the Grumblers’ half. Flint is already moving to intercept (on the ball and quick snap), but he’s overshot and the ball goes over his shoulder.
GG 7. With a joint effort Thorif and Gromnir bring down Palamades making him see stars. The Grumblers throw their weight about taking advantage of the extra numbers. Flint grabs the ball and passes to Barak who charges down the field and straight into Lancelot sending him to the floor.
AC 7. The Arthurians are on the offensive and Gaheris sends Thror to the ground and advances on Barak. Elaine gets herself up and with some fancy and graceful foot and hip movements barges into Barak, who manages to keep his feet but is forced back.
GG 8. Elaine for her trouble receives a blow from Thorek which has her seeing stars. Barak doubles back from the trouble and passes to Flint. Seeing an opportunity to send one of the Arthurian’s crowd surfing, he dodges out to be caught by the beard and drops to the ground.
AC 8. Lancelot in frustration manages to land a heavy blow on Thorif making him see stars. The Arthurians lash out, but there is the half time whistle.
With the half time refreshments Arthur is tempted awake with roast venison, though Bedivere remains comatose.
With their team captain back the Arthurians are back up to eleven. The two teams have set up in an almost mirror of each other, with three members taking up central position on the line of scrimmage, who on the wing’s scrimmage line. Two in the second lien and ball carriers in a line in reserve.
There is the kick and it’s deep into the Grumblers half, (Brillian Coaching – Humans). But the bounce is too much and it’s touched back to Barak.
GG 9. Albrec and Storaz in an effort to open the wing send blocks at Palamades, but the Saracen holds his own and holds the line. Thror sends a blow against Bors that knocks him off his feet, and seeing stars. The Grumblers throw their weight against the Arthurian line, whilst Barak moves up looking for an opening.
AC 9. The Arthurians are holding the Grumblers back and pushing them back into their half
GG 10. The Grumblers are struggling to break the Arthurian line, and Sir Neville is single handed holding back a quarter of the Grumblers team. Barak passes the ball to flint who catches it and tries to find a way though.
AC 10. Arthur blitzes Thorif knocking him to the floor and runs behind the Grumblers line and bear down on Flint. Elaine grabs Thror and wrestles him to the ground.
GG 11. Barak doubles back and knocks down Arthur and Flint tries to advance, still the Grumblers throw themselves at the Arthurians. Thorek tackles Guinevere to the floor she has hit her head hard on the astrogranite, and seeing stars.
AC 11. Gaheries dodges out to threaten Flint, where Palamades dodges from his position holding the line and charging at Flint leaping on him and wrestling him to the ground with the ball bouncing loose. Lancelot, goes for the ball but has surrounded himself by Grumblers who knock him to the floor knocking the wind out of him.
GG 12. Storaz runs and knocks the wind out of Gaheris clearing a path. Flint is back on his feet and grabs the ball, whilst the Grumblers start to cage around him knocking the Arthurians to the floor. Bors has grabbed Thorif who was throwing a block and has wrestled him to the ground.
AC 12. The Arthurians pull themselves up to try and stop the momentum of the Grumblers from building. Galahad doubles back to stand alone against a Grumbler wall. Pellinore tries to dodge away to go for Flint, but has stumbled trying to keep the Grumblers at bay.
GG 13. Albrec pushes Galahad out of the way allowing Flint to run for the score line, Oh no! He’s tripped on his beard and tumbled to the ground, the ball bouncing loose.
AG 13. Gareth has doubled back and scoops up the loose ball and with a prayer to Nuffle sends the ball up the field to Arthur, in a vain attempt Gromnir tries to intercept but the ball sales well out of his reach, but the ball travels wide and lands with a thump on the granite.
GG 14. Kurgin doubles back to protect the ball and shoulder barges Arthur to the floor. Barak weaves through both teams and scoops up the ball and sends it back down the field, but his aim is off and lands beside Flint.
AG 14. Galahad moves to cover Flint, whilst Pellinore is trying to move away from Gromnir but the dwarf has tripped him sending him to the ground. The stretchers are taking him to the recovery room to try and wake him up.
GG 15. Gromnir and Storaz double team Galahad knocking the wind out from his lungs leaving him a heap on the floor. Flint is free and has picked up the ball and heading towards the chalk unobstructed. TOUCH DOWN!!!!!!
With already into the third quarter the Grumblers set up in two rows in a 5-6 formation covering all the potential corridors. The Arthurians have minimal team members on the line of scrimmage going toe to toe with the Grumblers. Gareth and Gaheris at the rear ready to receive the ball. They are still a player down so they’ll have to try and cover themselves or even the playing field in order to get through.
There is the kick, and again it’s landing in centre field towards Gaheris, who moves (Quick Snap) to catch, but the ball slips between his arms and bounces on the ground.
AC 15. Gaheris picks up the ball and passes to Arthur, who cradles it and runs down the wing through a corridor, created by Bors pushing Storaz back out of the way, sprinting with a extra burst of speed. Guinevere throws herself at Thror with a rain of blows, but with a headbutt to the chest she is knocked down to the ground.
GG 16. With the last minutes passing quickly Barak and Flint fall back to try to stop Arthur, catching him in a double whammy sending him flying to the floor and the ball thrown loose and landing on the edge of the field with both dwarfs guarding it. In an attempt to stop anybody reaching the ball Storaz and Bors as well as Kurgin and Palamades are wrestling on the floor.
AC 16. Arthur stands up and makes a last-ditch attempt to score, trying to dodge around Flint, but has lost his footing trying to avoid the blows of the dwarf and falls crashing to the ground and on the ball.
There is the final whistle, 2-0 to the Granitebeard Grumblers. This win has secured their place in the leagues play off.
